Magnesium Deficiency
July 11th, 2008 Posted in Health N BeautyI recently was suffering some sharp muscle cramps after completing a series of long distance bike riding. The cramps would suddenly appear when I least expected them. Sometimes I got them when I was resting in bed and just happen to move my legs in a certain position. In addition my bike speed was significantly slowing down compared to my previous treks. I was loosing my energy and my fatigue was getting worse. In addition I was gasping for air while bike riding!
A friend of mine noticed that I drank primarily green tea with ginseng on my bike treks. He reminded me that green tea, like many other teas, is a diuretic. I was aware of this, however, I always thought green tea was a mild diuretic. Green tea is considered an excellent anti-oxidant. However based on my experience it should not be used on a continuous basis during extreme exercise when you need to retain electrolytes and you may be perspiring profusely. Its benefits may be lost in those situations and other undesirable results may happen.
I immediately discontinued drinking Green Tea while bike riding and started to drink Endura. I chose Endura because it has electrolyte minerals that are found in muscle cells and has an excellent form of magnesium and many other important nutrients. The results have been outstanding. Muscle cramps disappeared and no longer show up when I least expect them. In addition my energy levels increased and I my stamina has improved significantly!
Based on my experience, electrolyte replacements should always be used when participating in intense sports or if you experience unusually high perspiration for optimum performance.
