Deet Alternative

It is commonly used as a topical application and it is very effective as an insect repellant. Today Deet use is more wide spread to help prevent mosquito transmitted diseases like West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Malaria, and many others.
However it is a chemical solvent and plastizer. It can actually dissolve different materials. It is also thought to cause neurological damage such as nervousness as it builds up in the body. In small children like any other chemical there is more of a problem because they are more likely to suffer from build up in the body due to skin ingestion.
Up until recently there weren’t any effective alternatives to Deet. However, today several manufacturers are offering natural alternatives that are very effective insect repellents. The only caveat is that these products need to be applied more often than Deet.
